Colchester Stampede Half Marathon – Sunday 10th October 2021

Race Packs

If you entered before Wednesday 29th September, you will receive a race pack in the post. If you entered after this date, a pack will be waiting for you to collect on the day. If you are expecting a pack in the post and do not receive it by Friday 8th October, please contact us.

If you are collecting your race pack, please make your way to the registration desks between 7:30 – 8:30 am. It will take around 10 minutes to collect number and drop your bag off. The earlier you get there, the more efficient we will be on the day.

We will have queue markers on the floor, so please ensure when queuing you are 2m from another runner.

When you receive your race packs, please take a couple of minutes to fill out the brief runner Information form which can be found printed on the back of your bib. This will help us greatly in case of an emergency!

Race Start 

After the warm up, estimated finish times will be called to the starting pen where our marshals will guide you into a start formation.

Please listen closely to all marshal instructions and remember to keep a safe distance from the runners around you. 

Travel

The car park will open at 6:45am and we would advise arriving before 7:30am to avoid queuing into the carpark. Please expect a short queue if arriving after 7:30am. There will be plenty of FREE parking available for all runners and spectators next to the event village.

By Car – The postcode for the event is: CO3 0SL

Colchester Zoo is located just south of Colchester. Take the A1124 exit (Junction 26) off the main A12 following the brown elephant signs and using the new Stanway Western Bypass.
From the M25: About 40 minutes from Junction 28 of the M25 to reach the A12.

From Southend: About 1 hour’s journey, 40 miles using A127 and A130 to reach the A12.

From Hertfordshire: About 1 hour’s journey – 50 miles using A414 or A120 to reach the A12.

From Stansted Airport: About 50 minutes journey, 30 miles using A120 to reach the A12.

Colchester Zoo is situated on Maldon Road in Stanway.

By Rail 

The nearest stations are: Colchester North and Marks Tey.

We advise planning your journey before the race to ensure you arrive at the train station with as much time as possible. Colchester North and Marks Tey train station are a 4 mile walk from the start line.

There are taxi services you can contact if this does not work for you, we’d recommend contacting and booking them well in advance.

Toilets

For this event we will use portable toilets. Lining up for these toilets will be socially distanced. If you live locally we recommend using toilets at home.

Spectators

Colchester Zoo has reserved a limited number of tickets for friends & family of the runners to visit Colchester Zoo on the 10th October 2021.

These tickets are available on a first come first serve basis for paying guests at the discounted rate of 20% off. Those with Zoo Passes are not required to book and are able to arrive on the day and present their valid pass.

Hygiene Stations

There will be multiple hygiene stations around the event village and start/finish area for all participants to use throughout the event. These will have hand sanitiser, tissue and bins for the disposal of any litter.

Baggage

Please limit the number of belongings you bring to the event. The car park is located next to the start and finish line and we therefore recommend leaving any belongings in your car. There will be an informal self-service bag drop area within the event village for runners who need it.

Dogs

Dogs are not permitted within the event village or zoo.

During the race

We will have marshals all around the course as well as mile signs and arrows. The course will run through the Zoo, then out onto the closed roads for the half marathon course before finishing back inside the Zoo.

Spitting and nasal clearance during the race is NOT permitted.

Refreshments

There will be water provided at the 2.5 mile, 7 mile and 11.5 mile marks. Water will also be available at the finish line. Please bring your own water to the event to avoid congestion on the course. We recommend staying hydrated in the lead up to the event.

After the race

Do NOT stop within the finish area. Please continue through the finish until you pass the medals and are in an open space.

There will be sealed ACTIPH water bottles at the finish for each runner to collect along with your medal, Love Corn, and Kind Snack bar which will be laid out on tables for you to help yourself.

Zoo Entry

All runners will be able to claim their free Zoo entry on the day of the race after you finish by showing your medal to the staff at the entrance. In order to gain entry to the Zoo you will need to show your medal.

Please be advised there may be a short queue when waiting to enter the Zoo.

All food & drink outlets within the Zoo are also open for takeaway only, and runners can claim 20% off (except from the sweet shop) when showing their medal at the outlets.

We will have a photographer taking a few snaps of the race and they will be on Facebook after the race so be sure to check it out and see if you can spot yourself.
