Please note: you will be set off in waves based on the estimated finish time entered at the checkout.  

As you will be aware the event has been modified to ensure we can adhere to social distancing and the guidelines issued by RunBritain and UK Sport.

Please familiarise yourself with the measures that will be in place at the event HERE.

Thank you for your cooperation with the new regulations in place at the event, these are necessary to ensure a safe environment and mean that we can continue to provide race opportunities.

Race Packs 

If you entered before Thursday 5th May, you will receive a race pack in the post. If you entered after, a pack will be waiting for you to collect on the day. If you are expecting a pack in the post and do not receive it by Sunday, please head to the information desk before the start of your race and we will issue you with another one.

You will not be able to run without a race number and chip.

NO CHIP MEANS NO TIME.

When you receive your race packs, please take a couple of minutes to fill out the brief runner Information form which can be found printed on the back of your bib. This will help us greatly in case of an emergency!

Race Start 

The colour of your race number will relate to the wave you are starting in. This has been determined by the estimated finish time given when signing up.

Within the event village you will see the start line and each start area marked out with a corresponding coloured sign. When arriving please familiarise yourself with your start area.

YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CHANGE WAVES.

Each wave will be called to the starting pen where our marshals will guide you into a start formation with 2 runners, all 2m apart, being started every few seconds.

The first runners will cross the line at 9:00am and you can expect each wave to follow shortly afterwards.

We will be guiding you through the pens before your wave start time to ensure social distancing so please make sure you are in the correct location and ready to race before your start time. We will get you started as soon as it is safe to do so.

Please listen closely to all marshal instructions and remember to keep a safe distance from the runners around you.

Travel

We recommend you arrive as early as possible, as with many large sporting events there will be traffic coming into the venue. Please plan your journey accordingly!

By Car – The postcode for the event is: CO3 0SL

Colchester Zoo is located just south of Colchester. Take the A1124 exit (Junction 26) off the main A12 following the brown elephant signs and using the new Stanway Western Bypass.
From the M25: About 40 minutes from Junction 28 of the M25 to reach the A12.

From Southend: About 1 hour’s journey, 40 miles using A127 and A130 to reach the A12.

From Hertfordshire: About 1 hour’s journey – 50 miles using A414 or A120 to reach the A12.

From Stansted Airport: About 50 minutes journey, 30 miles using A120 to reach the A12.

Colchester Zoo is situated on Maldon Road in Stanway.

The car park will open at 6:45am and we would advise arriving before 7:30am to avoid queuing into the carpark. Please expect a short queue if arriving after 7:30am. There will be plenty of FREE parking available for all runners and spectators next to the event village.

By Rail 

The nearest stations are: Colchester North and Marks Tey.

We advise planning your journey before the race to ensure you arrive at the train station with as much time as possible. Colchester North and Marks Tey train station are a 4 mile walk from the start line.

There are taxi services you can contact if this does not work for you, we’d recommend contacting and booking them well in advance.

Toilets

For this event we will use portaloos. Lining up for these toilets will be socially distanced. If you live locally we recommend using toilets at home.

Hygiene Stations

There will be multiple hygiene stations around the event village and start/finish area for all participants to use throughout the event. These will have hand sanitiser, tissue and bins for the disposal of any tissue or litter.

Baggage

Please limit the number of belongings you bring to the event. The car park is located next to the start and finish line and we therefore recommend leaving any belongings in your car.
There will be an informal self-service bag drop area within the event village for runners who need it. This is in order to reduce contact between runners and staff.

Dogs

Dogs are not permitted within the event village or zoo.

During the race

We will have marshals all around the course as well as KM signs and arrows. The course will run through the Zoo, then out onto the closed roads for the 10k course before finishing back inside the Zoo.

Please note that there is a strict 90 minute cut off time for the 10k distance due to the road closures!

Spitting and nasal clearance during the race is NOT permitted.

Refreshments

There will be water provided at the 5k point of the race, and there will also be water available at the finish. Please bring your own water to the event to avoid congestion on the course. We recommend staying hydrated in the lead up to the event.

After the race

Do NOT stop within the finish area. Please continue through the finish until you pass the medals and are in an open space.

There will be sealed ACTIPH water bottles at the finish for each runner to collect along with your medal, Love Corn, Kind Snack bar and t-shirt which will be laid out on tables for you to help yourself.

We ask that once you have collected your medal, t shirt and water to leave the event village as soon as possible to avoid groups congregating within the event village.

Zoo Entry

All runners will be able to claim their free Zoo entry on the day of the race after you finish by showing your medal to the staff at the entrance. In order to gain entry to the Zoo you will need to show your medal, and also an email confirmation of a completed Track & Trace form which can be found HERE.

Please be advised there may be a short queue when waiting to enter the Zoo.

Due to social distancing regulations and Government guidelines only outdoor areas of the Zoo are currently permitted to open, however there are still plenty of animals to see and for you to enjoy!

All food & drink outlets within the Zoo are also open for takeaway only, and runners can claim 20% off (except from the sweet shop) when showing their medal at the outlets.
